Afterthoughts on the LinkedIn Challenge

Ten days ago today, I wrote a post challenging myself (and anyone willing to take it) to write ten recommendations on LinkedIn in ten days.  I linked to an accompanying question on LinkedIn answers contemplating the value of a recommendation.

My two cents: in the worst case it doesn’t hurt to have recommendations on your profile.  In the best case, it informs recruiters and potential employers of the impression you’ve made on people.  And it tells people that they mean enough that you’d stake a bit of your reputation to publicly endorse them.

So how did it go?  When the dust settled after a marathon session last night  I wrote eighteen recommendations in ten days (and got two very nice ones in return thanks to Stan McKenzie and Lauryn Doll).  I also got a couple of very nice notes as well – so I was really pleased with the result.

It may not mean a whole lot in the grand scheme of it all, but it’s always a good day when you can do something nice thing for someone.

I aspire to give people something to think about rather than tell them what to do. My favorite Google Alert is “social media research,” I am increasingly compelled by Gen Z, and I appreciate good writers agnostic of where they write. At one time I was Kred’s 12th most influential social media blogger and Klout’s most influential person on the topic of David Hasselhoff. Transplant from Seattle living in Cincinnati. Haven’t entirely adopted the local sports teams yet.
