One of my ancillary crusades is to point out where social media is purported to cause something that it doesn’t. Divorce is a perfect example of this.
Because the divorce rate for people under 50 hasn’t demonstrably changed with the advent of social media, social media isn’t causing divorce. But once you get past that point, this infographic makes it clear that social content is targeted and scrutinized during a divorce. This insight could extend to job applicants whose social profiles would be pored over with similar intent and detail. I thought it was a pretty striking reminder about the consequences of our online footprints.
